Hello,
Thank you very much for writing back regarding the modified KCHR (0) resource
in System 7. I sincerely appreciate your concern for all those other font
providers and all those users whose "cries of woe" might be heard throughout
the computer world, given that you have already prepared special KCHR resources
for your own product.
Hopefully, the picture will not get so pathetic. After all, the SOt SOz SOx
assignments you mention can still be produced (using the dead-key combinations
<option-i, E>, <option-i, U>, and <option-`, U>).
And on the other hand, System 7 provides the facility (for the end user!) to
drag a KCHR resource (provided its filetype is 'kfil', and its creator 'movr',
and the ID does not conflict with other KCHR resources already present) into
the System file, and to select among the available KCHR's by means of the
'Keyboard' control panel. You will find such a "Keyboard layout file", named
<oldUS>, in the accompanying diskfile.
Nevertheless, I understand the hassle this implies in the situations you are
referring to. Unfortunately, I cannot be of much help regarding the possibility
of a re-revision of the new KCHR (0) layout.
In my last link, I did not know if you had easy access to Inside Macintosh
Vol. 6; I should have immediately joined the pages I referred to. Please, find
them in the accompanying diskfile "IM Vol.6 (KCHR).PKG" !
Best regards,
Joseph Maurer
